Winslow Road Fire

Shortly after 15:30 Hrs on October 16, 2011 Newtown Hook and Ladder’s Engine 1 and Ladder 114 responded to the address of 1 Winslow Rd. in the Hawleyville fire district for a report of a structure fire. Car 103 arrived on scene and assumed the duties of the Operations Officer. Heavy fire was found coming from a 2 car garage located under a raised ranch style single family dwelling. The fire was quickly extending into the second floor and attic. Members from Engine 1 set up water supply from a nearby pond to fill tankers while members from Ladder 114 proceeded to the roof to perform vertical ventilation. Additional H&L members on scene stretched a 2 1/2″ attack line from Hawleyville’s Engine 331 and darkened down the majority of the fire. H&L remained on scene for approximately 2 hours performing overhaul and extinguishing any remaining fire.
