On April 9, 2013 just after noon Newtown Hook and Ladder with automatic aid from Hawleyville and Sandy Hook Fire Departments were dispatched for a reported structure fire at 64 Main St. Arriving crews found a fully involved detached barn approximately 50 feet from a garage and 150 feet form occupied residence. First arriving engine crew positioned a remote master stream and stretched a 2 ½” handline while additional arriving engine crews secured water supply from two hydrants nearby. Truck 114 was utilized for an elevated master stream. An “all call” from dispatch alerting the two other fire company’s in town, moving up Botsford and Dodgingtown Fire Departments as well as receiving an ambulance on standby. Additional companies were released without incident. Hook and Ladder operated on the scene for approximately 2 hours.
