Just after 10am on Wednesday, August 21st, 2013 Newtown Hook & Ladder was dispatched for a Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries on I-84 west bound between exits 10 and 9. Arriving crews found a two vehicle MVA with two occupants trapped and needing extrication. Firefighters quickly went to work first stabilizing the vehicle then gaining access to the trapped occupants. With a crew assisting from Sandy Hook Fire Department front and rear doors from both sides of the vehicle were removed simultaneously to allow for access and removal of both occupants. From the time of arrival of rescue equipment on scene to patient removal was eleven minutes for the first occupant and seventeen minutes for the second occupant.
