Truck Fire on South Main St

Just after 5AM on Monday June 1st, 2015 Newtown Hook and Ladder was dispatched to equipment parking lot at 40 South Main St for a truck fire. Engine 111 arrived and extinguished a fire involving a ten wheel tractor truck. Fire Marshal’s office investigated the fire.

The morning of December 14th 2012, the quiet Town of Newtown was shattered when a gunman forced his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School. That morning Newtown Hook & Ladder responded to assist Sandy Hook Vol. Fire and Rescue.

Taking the lives of 26 individuals that included the innocent souls of 20 children and 6 educators in such a terrible act has affected us all and will have profound impact to the community for years to come. The following days will hopefully reveal the facts and answer questions that so many of us have.

The entire membership of Newtown Hook & Ladder would like to share its deepest sympathy to all who were involved. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those who lost loved ones and to everyone affected.

The heroes of that day are the educators of our children, the teachers and staff put themselves in harm’s way to protect the children.

Your outpouring of support, offers of assistance and condolences are greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I-84 West Roll Over

On March 9, 2012 shortly before 1530 hours, Newtown Hook and Ladder along with Sandy Hook and Hawleyville FD responded to a one car rollover accident with extrication on I-84 westbound between exits 9-8. Car 101 arrived on scene, established command and found one person still in the vehicle requiring extrication. Members used the Hurst cutters and spreaders to remove the roof, passenger side rear door and B post. The passenger side front door was also displaced to provide additional patient access. The patient was removed from the vehicle on a long board and turned over to EMS for transport. The extrication took approximately 12 minutes and NH&L operated on scene for approximately 1 hour.
