Propane Leak
During the afternoon of March 11, 2013 Newtown Hook and Ladder was dispatched for a Propane Leak in the rear parking lot of 61 Church Hill Rd. Arriving firefighters discovered a propane leak from a dispensing tank that had been overfilled. It was found that the relief valve worked correctly. The area surrounding was metered with negative results while the responsible company bled down the tank and Hook and Ladder returned to service approximately 30 minutes later.
Chimney Fire
During the afternoon of February 6, 2013 Newtown Hook and Ladder responded automatic aid to Sandy Hook for a reported structure fire at 4 Sherman St. Upon arrival, crews found a chimney fire. Members from Hook and Ladder assisted Sandy Hook with investigation and extinguishment. Tarps and tools were used from Truck 114 to help minimize further damage to the house. Newtown Hook and Ladder operated on the scene for approximately 45 minutes.
Fill the boot!
On Saturday, February 2, 2013, Newtown Hook & Ladder conducted a Fill the Boot style fund drive to raise funds for the Newtown Police Officers who are still out of work following the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14th. Members were able to raise over $22,000 in 6 hours. Hook and Ladder would like to thank all those that supported our efforts. We stand together with the Newtown Police Department and all others affected by the events of 12/14. We are Newtown Strong!
Working Fire on Algonquin Trail
On February 2, 2013 Newtown Hook and Ladder responded automatic aid to Sandy Hook for a working fire with reports of multiple people trapped at 65 Algonquin Trl. Upon arrival, members found a fully involved 2 1/2 story wood frame private dwelling with all occupants out of the house and accounted for. Truck 114 set up and operated its elevated master stream being fed by Botsford Engine 551 which drafted from the nearby Housatonic River, knocking down the bulk of the fire. Members remained on scene to assist with final extinguishment and overhaul. Hook and Ladder operated on scene for about 2 hours.
South Main St. Extrication
On February 1, 2013 Newtown Hook and Ladder responded to the area of 111 South Main St for a motor vehicle accident with extrication required. Rescue 113 and Engine 112 along with Botsford Engine 551 found a two vehicle accident with one patient needing to be extricated. Members removed the drivers side door and extricated the patient, turning them over to EMS. Hook and Ladder operated on scene for 40 minutes.
