Motor Vehicle Accident on Interstate 84

Friday, mid-morning on May 23, 2014, Newtown Hook and Ladder was dispatched to assist Hawleyville Fire Department for the reported motor vehicle accident on Interstate 84 eastbound between exits 9 and 10. Arriving crew found a two vehicle MVA with one person injured, members checked for hazards, assisted EMS before transferring command to Hawleyville FD. Total time on scene was less than twenty minutes.

Company Drill

Monday evening, May 19, 2014, Newtown Hook and Ladder held training on vehicle entrapment involving a tractor trailer truck and passenger vehicle. Rescue skills were practiced removing trapped victims from vehicle driven under tractor trailer. Multiple evolutions were conducted using varying advanced techniques and different scenarios. Twenty four fire department members and officers attended this training.

Motor Vehicle Accident on Dodgingtown Road

Early Sunday morning, May 11, 2014, just after midnight Newtown Hook and Ladder and Dodgingtown Fire Department were dispatched for a MVA with entrapment in front of 3 Dodgingtown Road. Arriving crew responding Rescue 113 found 1 vehicle on its roof with 1 occupant trapped. The vehicle was quickly stabilized with 2 Res-Q-Jacks™ and cribbing. The driver’s side front and rear doors and passenger side front door were removed as well as the driver’s side “B” post. The trapped person was removed for EMS care. From time of Rescue 113 arriving on scene to extrication complete was 23 minutes.

Motor Vehicle Accident on Main Street

Friday, May 9, 2014, just after 3pm Newtown Hook and Ladder was dispatched for a 2 car motor vehicle accident on Main Street in the vicinity of School House Hill Road. Engine 112 responded and applied absorbent material to fluids from one of the vehicle before returning to service.

Brush Fire

Wednesday, May 7, 2014, just after 4pm Newtown Hook and Ladder and Hawleyville Fire Department were dispatched to Papoose Hill Road for a brush fire. Arriving crews found less than ½ acre brush fire burning in the woods. Engine 112 from Hook and Ladder and Engine 331 from Hawleyville responded and extinguished the small brush fire.
