Wednesday, April 9, 2014, mid-morning, Newtown Hook and Ladder and Sandy Hook Fire Department were dispatched to Interstate 84 west bound in the area of the Tunnel Road overpass for a Truck Fire. Engine 111 and Engine 1 responded to the highway and found a Tractor Trailer Truck carrying building material with a partial cargo load on fire. The driver of the truck was fortunate to have a forklift to assist the Fire Department and limit the spread of fire by unloading the affected material. The bundle of building material was off loaded and separated to speed extinguishment. Tank water was used to extinguish the fire with one hand line from Engine 111 while Engine 1 was brought in to block traffic for the scene.
