MVA on Interstate 84

Friday, March 21, 2014 at 9:46am, Newtown Hook and Ladder was dispatched to Interstate 84 East bound just before exit 10 to assist for Hawleyville F.D. Engine 111 and Rescue 113 responded to the scene to find a three vehicle accident, involving two cars and a tractor trailer truck. There were two victims of the accident needing medical care that Newtown Ambulance treated. Responding crews disconnected batteries and covered fluids as a result of the accident before returning to service approximately 30 minutes later.

Structure Fire in Bethel

Monday, March 10, 2014 at 4:30pm, Newtown town-wide fire departments were requested to respond to the Town of Bethel to perform Rapid Intervention Team duties at the scene of a structure fire. Bethel Fire Departments were extinguishing fire in a large wood framed building on Greenwood Ave. in the center of town. Newtown Hook and Ladder responded with Ladder Truck 114 and a crew as well as members from other Newtown Fire Departments. On scene, department firefighters place ground ladders to upper floors while standing by for RIT functions. Additional crews assisted with setting up ventilation and performed partial over-haul in the fire building. Newtown Fire Departments remained on scene for over an hour before returning to service.

Chimney Fire in Sandy Hook

Sunday, March 9, 2014 shortly after 7:30pm Newtown Hook and Ladder was dispatched to a residence on Philo Curtis Rd. to assist Sandy Hook F.D. with a chimney fire. Ladder Truck 114 responded with a crew to the scene. Sending a crew to the roof and a crew to the basement to assist members of SHFD extinguishing a chimney fire and removing damaged stove pipe from the home. Newtown Hook and Ladder remained on scene for approximately 50 minutes.

Car Fire

Monday, March 3, 2014 early afternoon Newtown Hook and Ladder was dispatched with Hawleyville Volunteer F.D. to a car fire on Farrell Rd. Engine 111 and crew responded and found a SUV on fire in a residential driveway. The property owner called 911 before attempting to extinguish the fire using a portable fire extinguisher and garden hose. Arriving crew extinguished all remaining fire, remaining on scene for approximately 25 minutes.
