I-84 Brush Fire

On Thursday morning November 14, 2013, just after 5am Newtown Hook & Ladder responded to Interstate 84 west bound between exits 10 & 9 for a reported brush fire. An area of approximately 75’ x 100’ on the right side of the highway was burning. Two engines with crews extinguished the fire and overhauled the area checking for hot spots and hidden fires.

MVA with Entrapment on Mile Hill Rd.

On Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 2:13pm Newton Hook & Ladder was dispatched to the scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident with person pinned in the vehicle near the intersection of Mile Hill Rd. and Mile Hill Rd. South. Arriving crews found a 2 vehicle accident involving a SUV and a full size tour bus.

At this time an additional fire company (Sandy Hook FD) was dispatched to assist as per our town protocols. The driver of the SUV was pinned and crews set to work removing the vehicle’s roof and driver’s side doors as well as displacing the dashboard allowing access to the patient. EMS took over patient care and the Fire Department covered fluids remaining on scene until vehicles were removed.

MVA Roll-Over on Mile Hill Rd. South

On Friday, November 1, 2013 shortly after 12noon Newtown Hook & Ladder was dispatched to Mile Hill Rd. South for Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries. Arriving crew found a MVA roll-over leaking fluids, the occupant was out of the vehicle. The Fire Department started patient care until Newtown Ambulance arrived while additional members covered leaking engine fluids. Crews remained on scene until the vehicle was righted and removed.
