Stove Fire on Main St.

Monday, September 30, 2013 just after 7am Newtown Hook & Ladder was dispatched to The General Store at 43 Main St with Hawleyville and Sandy Hook Fire Departments for a reported fire in the building. Arriving crews found a fire burning under the cook surface of the stove. The fire was quickly extinguished and smoke was evacuated. Scene was turned over the Fire Marshal’s Office and the Health Department.

Odor of burning on Windy Woods Circle

Saturday, September 28, 2013 at almost 11pm Newtown Hook & Ladder was dispatched to Windy Woods Circle with Hawleyville Fire Department for an odor of burning inside the home. Firefighters on scene checked the home and found the smell coming from a malfunctioning entertainment unit and tripped circuit breaker.

The 2013 Firehouse Ride and Pig Roast is in full swing!

We had over 125 bikes attend the Firehouse Ride this morning, our largest group ever! Thanks to everyone coming to ride and/or eat with us. The smoker has been running for hours, and the food is being served behind the building. These are a few photos from this morning, as the crowd was gathering before the start of the ride, during Father Bob’s blessing, and then the kickoff of the ride. Reported structure fire on Serenity Lane

On Sunday, September 22, 2013 mid-afternoon Newtown Hook & Ladder was dispatched to Serenity Lane with Sandy Hook Fire Rescue to what turned out to be a malfunctioning furnace. Steam mistaken for smoke alerted the owner to call the fire department. Arriving crews checked the structure with Thermal Imaging Cameras and found no additional problems.

MVA-Extrication on Interstate 84

On Friday, September 6th, 2013, shortly after 2pm Newtown Hook & Ladder was dispatched second due to assist Hawleyville Fire Department for a Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries. The accident was located on the off ramp of exit 9 east bound of I-84. Upon arrival company officers determined that the driver was trapped. Crews quickly stabilized the vehicle and disconnected power and extricated the trapped driver. Total extrication time was less than 20 minutes from arrival.

Truck Fire on Interstate 84

On Friday, September 12, 2013 shortly before midnight Newtown Hook & Ladder was dispatched to Interstate 84 west bound before exit 9 for a reported tractor trailer truck fire. On arrival department members found a tire burning on the trailer from overheated brakes. The fire was quickly extinguished and cooled to allow the truck to be repaired.
