MVA-Extrication on South Main St.

On July 19th, 2013 just before 7am Newtown Hook & Ladder responded automatic aid to a reported Motor Vehicle Accident with entrapment in front of 216 South Main St. Responding firefighters from Hook & Ladder assisted Botsford Fire Department with opening the vehicle to gain access to the trapped occupant. Working together the Fire Departments remove the driver’s side front and rear doors as well as the “B” post freeing the trapped occupant. Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters remained on scene for less than 30 minutes.

Structure Fire on Lake George Rd.

Just before midnight on July 17th, 2013 Newtown Hook and Ladder responded automatic aid to Hawleyville for a reported structure fire at 4 Lake George Rd. Firefighters upon arrival found a well-involved barn fire on the property. Hook & Ladder firefighters assisted Hawleyville Fire Department members knocking the fire down and protecting nearby structures. At times heavy master streams including an elevated master stream from Truck 114 aerial were utilized to control the fire. A tanker relay water supply was initiated using water tankers from Hawleyville, Sandy Hook , Botsford and Dodgingtown Fire Departments taking water from an underground suppression tank on nearby Pond Brook Rd. Additional water was taken by drafting water from the stream adjacent to Pond Brook Rd. Hook & Ladder firefighters remained on scene for over three hours assisting with extinguishment and overhaul before returning to service.
